Meeting of National Alliance

<span style="font-size: 11px;">A meeting of National Alliance for Promotion and Protection of Breastfeeding was organized on Thursday, 28th July 2011 at its Secretariat, TheNetwork for Consumer Protection Office to discuss the upcoming Global Breastfeeding Week 2011, post devolution scenario of BF laws and civil society's role in protection and promotion of optimal infant feeding practices at provincial &amp; district level. &nbsp;</span><br>

</span><span style="font-size: 11px;">The meeting began with a formal introduction of participants, followed by a presentation by Mr Nadeem Iqbal; sharing the findings of TN's current study on 'Monitoring of Breast Milk Substitutes Industry's Labeling Compliance with BF Laws'. &nbsp;15 indicators were set and 27 national and transnational infant formula samples were chosen for this study. &nbsp;He shared the findings against each indicator, majority of the samples were found not complying with BF law.&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 11px;">

The participants further discussed post devolution scenario. Dr Iqbal Kahut, National Manager-MPS, WHO showed great concern over the bewilderment among health sector regarding powers and procedures and expected delays in adopting, adapting and implementation of BF laws at the provincial level. Dr Nabeela Shahid of NRSP seconded it.&nbsp; It was stressed that at this time the alliance partners need to play their pivotal role in promoting IYCF. While discussing the Global Breastfeeding Week 2011, It was decided that partners will incorporate the key messages of Breastfeeding in their ongoing activities during this week. &nbsp;</span></div>
